PAGASA Announces 2025 Tropical Cyclone Names Including Auring, Kiko, Mirasol
PAGASA has released its 2025 tropical cyclone names list, which includes Auring, Kiko, and Mirasol, among others. The list consists of 25 names for each letter of the alphabet except X and ñ, along with auxiliary names for additional storms. The Philippines has faced significant tropical cyclone activity in 2024, highlighting the importance of this naming system.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has announced the official list of tropical cyclone names for the year 2025. Among the names are Auring, Kiko, and Mirasol, along with others that have been designated for each letter of the alphabet, excluding X and ñ. The complete roster consists of 25 names, which includes Auring, Bising, and Zoraida, to name a few. Furthermore, PAGASA has compiled an auxiliary list of names to be utilized in the event that the number of tropical cyclones surpasses the primary list.
The naming of tropical cyclones is crucial for efficient communication and response regarding weather disturbances in the Philippines, which frequently experiences typhoons. PAGASA updates its list annually to ensure that the names are relevant and do not repeat too frequently. With at least 18 weather disturbances recorded in 2024 and the foreseen impact of tropical cyclones, the agency’s proactive naming strategy is of significant importance to public safety and awareness.
The inclusion of names such as Auring, Kiko, and Mirasol in PAGASA’s 2025 tropical cyclone list signifies a systematic approach to managing meteorological events in the Philippines. By preparing primary and auxiliary names, PAGASA ensures readiness for any meteorological challenges that may arise. This foresight is not only pragmatic but also crucial for effective disaster preparedness and response.
