Tunisia Strategically Advances Renewable Energy with 500 MW Solar Projects

Tunisia has signed contracts for four solar projects totaling 500 MW, part of a larger 1.7 GW renewable energy initiative. Slated for operation by 2027, these projects will generate 1 TWh of electricity annually, comprising about 5% of the nation’s supply. In addition, Qair International has secured a further 198 MW solar project in Sidi Bouzid, significantly increasing its investment in Tunisia’s energy sector.

Moreover, the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy in Tunisia has declared intentions to invite bids for two wind energy projects, each with a capacity of 75 MW, expected to be announced by March 2025. The country has also initiated work on two solar projects, each with a capacity of 10 MW, located in the Kasserine Governorate, under the oversight of Qair and Mazarine energy companies. Additionally, a solar plant in Tozeur, valued at TND 135 million, is under construction, with Scatec and Toyota’s subsidiary, Aeolus, at the helm of development.

By advancing these renewable projects, Tunisia is proactively steering towards its renewable energy goals and establishing itself as a significant player in the regional energy transition.
