Dangote Strengthens Nigeria’s Auto Industry with Local Peugeot Production

Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited has commenced local assembly of the Peugeot 3008 GT, enhancing local automobile production. The assembly takes place in Kaduna, showcasing Nigeria’s growing role in automotive manufacturing. DPAN’s efforts build on its previous work in reintroducing Peugeot to Nigeria, aiming to strengthen the industry further through local initiatives and partnerships.

Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited (DPAN) has initiated the local assembly of the Peugeot 3008 GT model, enhancing its expanding product lineup and demonstrating its commitment to local automobile production. The assembly takes place in a state-of-the-art facility in Kaduna, further establishing Nigeria’s role within the automotive manufacturing industry.

The Peugeot 3008 GT, recognized for its exceptional design and performance, operates on a 1.6-liter turbo engine. This assembly mirrors the inaugural production of the 3008 model in Africa, undertaken in Ghana at the Tema Assembly Plant by Silver Star Auto in 2022, part of a broader strategy to enhance Peugeot’s presence across the continent.

DPAN originally reintroduced Peugeot to the Nigerian market with the assembly of the Peugeot 301 at its Kaduna plant. Since then, it has expanded its offerings to include the Landtrek pickup and other models, such as the Peugeot 5008 and the latest 508.

Dangote’s involvement in Nigeria’s automotive sector commenced in 2016 when his consortium, in cooperation with the Kaduna State Government and the Bank of Industry, acquired a controlling interest in Peugeot Automobile. By 2017, DPAN received authorization to open an assembly plant, and it officially began operations in 2022.

The introduction of the Peugeot 3008 GT signifies DPAN’s ongoing efforts towards enhancing local manufacturing capabilities, solidifying the future of Nigeria’s automotive industry.

In summary, Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited is significantly contributing to the revitalization of Nigeria’s automobile industry by locally assembling the Peugeot 3008 GT. This initiative not only strengthens local production but also builds upon the foundation laid in previous years with the introduction of various Peugeot models. As DPAN continues to expand its lineup, it reinforces the importance of local assembly in driving economic growth within the sector.
