Morocco Issues Severe Weather Warning for Upcoming Weekend

The Moroccan General Directorate of Meteorology has issued a severe weather alert for Friday and Saturday, indicating significant snow in mountainous regions, heavy rainfall, and strong winds. The regions affected include Ifrane, Boulemane, Casablanca, and others. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to ensure safety amid these weather conditions.

The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) of Morocco has issued an alert for severe weather conditions over the weekend, specifically on Friday and Saturday. This warning indicates the possibility of extreme weather phenomena, including significant snowfalls in mountainous areas, heavy thunderstorms, and strong winds that could lead to dust storms and safety hazards.

Starting from 11 a.m. on Friday until 6 a.m. on Saturday, snow is anticipated in mountain ranges above 1,800 meters. The provinces likely to be affected by snowfall include Ifrane, Boulemane, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Al Haouz, Chichaoua, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Midelt, and Taroudant.

In addition, sustained and potentially stormy rainfall is expected from 6 a.m. on Friday until 4 p.m. on Saturday, with total accumulations forecasted between 30 and 50 millimeters. This volume of rain raises the likelihood of localized flooding, flash floods in wadis, and disruptions to transportation services, particularly impacting provinces such as Safi, Essaouira, El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Berrechid, Settat, Casablanca, Nouaceur, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Taroudant, Nador, Al Hoceïma, Berkane, and Oujda.

Furthermore, strong wind gusts ranging from 70 to 95 kilometers per hour are anticipated on Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with dust storms also expected. Regions such as Figuig, Jerada, Errachidia, Ouarzazate, Zagora, Midelt, Boulemane, Guercif, and Tinghir are likely to be affected by these winds.

The DGM has advised residents in the impacted areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety amidst these severe weather forecasts.

In summary, Morocco is facing severe weather conditions over the weekend, with the DGM alerting citizens to the risks of snow, heavy rain, and strong winds. Affected areas are advised to prepare for potential disruptions and hazards due to these extreme weather phenomena. The DGM encourages residents to exercise caution during this period.
