Three Jewish Men Convicted and Sent Back to Guatemala Amid Controversy

Three men, Avron Dinkel, Chaim Malka, and Moshe Yhidia Alter, were convicted in Guatemala for various charges, including aiding in a crime and illegal entry. Each was fined $1,000, and after payment, they sought permission to return to Guatemala. Three men, Avron Dinkel and Chaim Malka, both charged with aiding in the commission of a crime, as well as Moshe Yhidia Alter, who faced a charge of illegal entry, were apprehended in Santa Elena, Cayo. Each appeared in the San Ignacio Magistrate’s Court and subsequently received a conviction, which included a fine of $1,000 each, accompanied by a default sentence of three months in prison. After settling their fines, the men petitioned to return to Guatemala.

Of the three convicted men, two hold American citizenship, while the third is a Canadian national. They are suspected of potential affiliations with the extremist Lev Tahor sect, which has been under scrutiny as its members are facing allegations in Guatemala, with many of the group’s leaders detained in El Salvador and Mexico pending extradition.

Guatemalan authorities had previously intervened in matters concerning Lev Tahor, rescuing 160 children and 40 women from the group amid serious allegations, including rape, forced marriages, and human trafficking. Notably, investigators also revealed the discovery of a child’s remains during the course of their raid against this group.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns related to the Lev Tahor sect and their criminal activities, as authorities in Guatemala intensify efforts to combat alleged human trafficking and related offenses. The convicted men are currently permitted to return to Guatemala after the resolution of their legal matters, but their connections to extremist groups warrant further investigation.
