Racing Association of Maldives Achieves Prestigious FIA Membership
The Racing Association of Maldives has achieved FIA membership, providing essential resources for promoting motorsport in the country. This includes access to international standards, development programs, and the chance to engage in global competitions. RAM aims to build infrastructure while promoting road safety and sustaining environmental practices amidst challenges.
The Racing Association of Maldives (RAM) has recently been granted membership in the International Automobile Federation (FIA). This significant milestone was achieved during a vote at the FIA Annual General Meeting held in Rwanda on December 13, 2022. RAM expressed that this membership will enhance their ability to promote motorsport within the Maldives.
Through its affiliation with FIA, RAM anticipates gaining access to invaluable resources and expertise, which will facilitate international recognition that was previously unattainable. Membership will enable the association to ensure local competitions adhere to international standards, engage in FIA developmental programs, and participate in global motorsport events.
Additionally, RAM plans to enhance the country’s motorsport infrastructure by establishing dedicated venues such as racetracks and training centers, while prioritizing environmentally efficient practices. The association also aims to collaborate with national agencies to foster road safety awareness and provide training opportunities for motorsport athletes across the Maldives.
Established in 2018, RAM has successfully conducted numerous tournaments, benefiting from significant support within the motorsport community. Nevertheless, the police halted the association’s 2024 RAAS Championship last December due to regulatory issues. Despite these challenges, RAM clubs and athletes have persevered by representing Maldives in international competitions, including a commendable performance in the semi-finals of the Drag Wars event in Sri Lanka this year.
In summary, the Racing Association of Maldives’ recent membership in the FIA marks a transformative development for motorsport in the region. With access to global resources and expertise, RAM is poised to promote motorsport, ensure adherence to international standards, and enhance infrastructure while promoting safety and sustainability. Despite past challenges, RAM’s commitment to the sport remains unwavering, illustrated by their participation in international competitions.
