Tragedy Strikes as Man Dies While Attempting Illegal Migration to U.S. Through Dunki Route

Gurpreet Singh, 33, died of a heart attack in Guatemala while attempting to migrate to the U.S. through the illegal ‘Dunki’ route. He passed away in Guatemala, prompting Punjab State Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal to meet with the grieving family. Minister Dhaliwal urged the public to refrain from illegal migration, emphasizing the dangers faced by young individuals pursuing the ‘American dream’.

Minister Dhaliwal, during his visit, expressed commitment to facilitating the return of Gurpreet’s remains to his family. The minister revealed that Gurpreet’s family lost approximately Rs 36 lakh in the ill-fated journey, underscoring that illegal pathways lead to devastating consequences.

He lamented the missed calls for assistance and the poor conditions his brother faced during the illegal transit. He further demanded accountability for the agents who exploit vulnerable individuals, causing immense hardship and tragedy. “Agents who take people illegally, should be held accountable… instead of spending so much money, work here. It will be good,” he stated, urging a shift toward legal employment options.
