Kuwait’s Winter Transitions to Hameem Season with Dusty Conditions
Kuwait’s winter concludes on March 6, ushering in the Hameem season, a period marked by variable weather, including dust storms and rainfall, lasting until April 2. The spring equinox on March 20 will mark equal day and night lengths, with the weather expected to improve over the weekend.
The Al-Ojeiri Scientific Center has declared that Kuwait’s cold winter will conclude on Saturday, making way for milder weather and the preliminary signs of spring. This change indicates the arrival of the Hameem season, which follows the Scorpion season and precedes the Dhiraan season. This transitional phase is anticipated to continue until April 2.
Hameem season is notable for its variable weather patterns, which can include substantial fluctuations between cold and warm temperatures, rain, and dust. During this period, both spring and winter characteristics blend as occasional dust storms and scattered rain may occur alongside gradually rising temperatures. Hameem season is further divided into two segments: the first and second Hameem.
The transition between these two parts aligns with the equality of day and night, coinciding with the spring equinox on March 20, 2023. This equal duration of day and night arises when the sun is positioned directly over the equator, and it can vary in different geographical locations due to the sun’s tilt relative to the equator.
Dherar Al-Ali, the acting director of the Kuwait Meteorological Department, indicated that significant rain would continue until Saturday morning, accompanied by strong southeasterly winds reaching over 60 km/h. He noted that these conditions would result in dust waves and reduced visibility in various areas, although the weather is expected to improve by Saturday noon. Additionally, Friday’s forecast suggests similar dusty conditions with temperatures ranging between 21 and 12 degrees, while Saturday will bring warmth with temperatures reaching between 24 to 22 degrees during the day and dropping to 11 degrees at night.
In summary, Kuwait is transitioning from winter to spring, with the Hameem season commencing on March 6. This period is characterized by significant weather variability, including dust storms and rainfall, with temperatures gradually increasing. The spring equinox on March 20 marks the equality of day and night, further signifying the seasonal shift. Weather conditions over the coming days will include continued rain and dust, ultimately yielding clearer skies by Saturday.
