Investigation Into Scottish Businessman’s Murder Uncovers Previous Violent Crimes in Kenya
Three men wanted for the murder of Campbell Scott in Kenya had previously conducted a similar violent attack on a pastor. Scott’s body was found shortly after he vanished while attending a business conference. The investigation has led to the arrest of two suspects, while efforts continue to locate the additional individuals implicated in this crime.
In Kenya, three men are being sought in connection with the murder of Campbell Scott, a 58-year-old Scottish businessman whose body was discovered in a sack of pineapples. Scott had recently arrived in Nairobi to attend a business conference and was reported missing shortly before his death. The investigation is being treated as a murder case, with two suspects arrested so far and the remaining three individuals currently at large.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Kenya has linked the suspects, Benard Mbunga Mbusu, Samuel Musembi Kamitu, and Alphonse Munyao Kilewa, to a prior incident a year earlier, where they were involved in the abduction and blackmail of a church pastor. Authorities reported that this gang allegedly extorted approximately 55,000 Kenyan shillings, roughly £330, from the pastor during the past attack, characterized by violence and humiliation.
Details from the investigation reveal Scott’s partially decomposed body was discovered in Makongo Forest on February 22, 2025, following his disappearance on February 16, when he was last seen at a conference at the JW Marriot Hotel. Law enforcement has emphasized the brutality of the murder, and a court has permitted further investigation with two suspects held for a maximum of 21 days.
Following the grim news, Fico, where Scott was a senior director, expressed deep sorrow over his passing, noting his significant contributions to the company since joining in 2014. Fico’s spokesperson stated, “We mourn his passing and will miss his humour and kindness.” The investigation is ongoing, with local authorities and the Foreign Office providing support to Scott’s family during this distressing time.
The tragic murder of Campbell Scott has raised significant concerns within Kenya regarding safety and crime, especially as the suspects were previously involved in a violent incident. The authorities are actively pursuing the remaining individuals connected to this case. The investigation reflects ongoing efforts by Kenyan law enforcement to address such heinous crimes while emphasizing community cooperation to ensure justice for Scott and his family.
