This tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., as reported by Ibrahim Hussaini, the Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA).

The disaster unfolded when a tanker truck, transporting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), lost control on a poorly maintained road. The fuel from the tanker spilled into a nearby stream, where farmers were engaged in rice cultivation. Hussaini explained that the ignited fuel led to a fire that ultimately triggered a massive explosion, transforming the landscape.

According to Hussaini, the inferno wreaked havoc on the farmland, completely devastating the rice fields, fruits, and other vegetation. Unfortunately, at the time of the report, seven lives had been confirmed lost, and one individual was injured. The victims have been identified as Rafiatu Sahabi, Ramlat Shehu, Rashida Abdullahi Raliya, Abdulrahaman, Zainab Ahmed, Zuwaira Idrisu, and Maryam A. Nura.

NSEMA further reported that Maimuna Isah, one of the farmers affected by the incident, suffered injuries and is currently receiving medical care at Saho Rami Primary Health Care.
