The Kenya Meteorological Department warns of moderate to heavy rainfall anticipated across several regions in Kenya from March 7 to March 11, 2025. Areas impacted include the highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, and Rift Valley. Isolated storms may occur over the weekend, while some areas, particularly in the North Eastern region, will remain dry. High temperatures and strong winds are also expected in various regions.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding moderate to heavy rainfall expected across various regions from March 7, 2025, to March 11, 2025. The advisory highlights that eight specific areas will be affected, including the highlands to the west and east of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Central and South Rift Valley. Additionally, isolated storms may occur in some regions, particularly over the upcoming weekend.

Areas anticipated to experience rainfall encompass the Coastal Region, southeastern lowlands, northwest, and parts of the southern coast. The department noted that most parts of the country would experience predominantly sunny, dry, and hot weather, followed by potential rainfall beginning from the weekend.

Counties in the highlands east, such as Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi, are expected to receive rainfall ranging from moderate to heavy from Saturday to Tuesday. The weather advisory mentions that these areas will experience hot and sunny conditions prior to the onset of the rains.

Similarly, counties within the Lake Victoria Basin and Rift Valley, including Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, and Nandi, are projected to receive substantial rainfall between March 9 and March 12. Counties such as Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot are also expected to encounter similar weather conditions.

In contrast, counties in the North Eastern region, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, will remain dry and sunny throughout the weekend. The department cautions that high temperatures exceeding 30°C will prevail across most regions, excluding the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, where temperatures should remain below this threshold. Strong south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.9 m/s) are expected to impact some areas of northwestern and northeastern Kenya.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has effectively alerted the public regarding the forecast of significant rainfall in various regions from March 7 to March 11, 2025. With projections indicating that specific counties will face moderate to heavy rains, along with the possibility of isolated storms, residents are advised to prepare accordingly. Conversely, some areas will experience dry and sunny conditions, emphasizing the importance of localized weather awareness.
