In a disturbing incident, Mr. Akari Loveday, the Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), was kidnapped. The abduction occurred on Friday while he was traveling along the river towards the Ayakoro community, located in the Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, which is the hometown of Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the NDDC Managing Director.
According to a local source, armed kidnappers intercepted the boat transporting Akari and others, forcibly removing him from the vessel. However, their escape was hindered when the engine of their boat unexpectedly malfunctioned. Consequently, they navigated to the riverbank and fled into the nearby bush with the victim.
Following the incident, security forces, including the police, have initiated a search operation throughout the region. A witness remarked on the visible police presence in the area, indicating ongoing stop-and-search activities. The witness stated, “The SA Domestic to the NDDC MD has been kidnapped. He was kidnapped along the river on the way to Ayakoro when he was kidnapped. They took him out of the boat, but as they tried to get away, their engine stopped suddenly. So, they pulled to the shore and ran into the bush.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Musa Mohammed, the spokesman for the Bayelsa State Police Command, was unable to confirm the reports of the kidnapping. He expressed, “I’m not aware of it.” Despite the lack of official confirmation, the situation remains critically under review as authorities work to locate Mr. Akari.
The kidnapping of Mr. Akari Loveday, Special Adviser to the NDDC MD, raises significant concerns about security in the Niger Delta region.
