Search for Missing College Student Sudiksha Konanki in Dominican Republic Continues
Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student, has been missing since last Thursday in the Dominican Republic. Efforts to find her use various resources, including police and federal assistance. Her parents and local officials seek an expanded search area, expressing hope for her safe return amidst growing concerns.
The search continues for Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old college student from Northern Virginia, who has been missing in the Dominican Republic since early Thursday morning. Konanki, a University of Pittsburgh student, traveled to the island with friends for spring break last week. Locals in her hometown of Chantilly remain hopeful for her safe return as search efforts intensify with the involvement of canines, drones, helicopters, and boats.
Family friend Shekar Pendem has known Konanki since she was three years old and commented on the heightened anxiety surrounding the case. “It’s already four days and everybody is so worried,” Pendem stated. Konanki was last seen on hotel surveillance cameras around 4:15 a.m. with friends near the beach area of their Punta Cana hotel.
Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman indicated that those who accompanied Konanki are being interviewed to ascertain details regarding her disappearance. He mentioned that one interviewee was a young man present on the beach at the same time. Chapman is collaborating with federal agencies, including the FBI, to pursue all possible leads.
U.S. Congressman Suhas Subramyam expressed his concern, stating, “The worst nightmare. I’ve got two daughters and I just think about a scenario like this happening to them. It’s really heartbreaking.” Konanki’s parents are currently in the Dominican Republic, participating in the search, and have requested an expanded search area beyond Punta Cana for more thorough investigation.
The search for Sudiksha Konanki remains active as local authorities and federal agencies coordinate efforts to locate her. As the community rallies for Konanki’s safe return, concern grows among family and friends. The investigation is ongoing, focusing on interviews with those last seen with her. Authorities remain hopeful amidst the distressing situation.
