She disappeared during the early morning hours from a beach near the Riu República Hotel, coinciding with a local power outage that led many guests to the beach.

According to Dominican President Luis Abinader, all relevant government agencies are actively involved in the search. “We are concerned,” he stated during a press briefing, recalling the last reported interaction with Konanki, where it was suggested that a wave had crashed upon them while they were on the beach.

Contrary to earlier media speculations, Juan Salas, the Civil Defense Director, clarified that authorities have not located Konanki’s clothing, dismissing those reports as inaccurate. He did not provide additional comments when contacted for further information.

Sudiksha Konanki, originally from India, is a U.S. permanent resident residing in Chantilly, Virginia. Following the report of her disappearance, her parents have traveled to Punta Cana, urging for an expansion of the investigation. They revealed that she had arrived in the Dominican Republic on March 3, accompanied by five other female students.
