Genovese, 53, entered a guilty plea before Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi to charges including second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter, and leaving the scene following an incident causing death. His plea encompassed the most serious charges he faced.

On June 8, 2024, around 8:10 p.m., Mr. Genovese was operating a pickup truck on Lake Shore Road (Route 5) in Hamburg when he collided with another vehicle. Reports indicate that he was driving under the influence and lacked a valid license when he struck the victim’s SUV, which had halted for a left turn onto Eckhardt Road.

Following the accident, Genovese fled the scene and was later apprehended in a nearby wooded area by law enforcement. Emergency responders transported him to Erie County Medical Center. Tragically, among the occupants of the victim’s vehicle were two children; an 8-year-old boy was fatally injured, while the 4-year-old boy was treated for injuries at Oishei Children’s Hospital and subsequently released.

Mr. Genovese is scheduled to be sentenced on May 12, where he may face a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. He is currently being held without bail. District Attorney Michael Keane praised the Town of Hamburg Police Department and their Accident Investigation Unit for their diligent efforts in this matter.
