In Europe, NIO offers a subscription model for its cars, charging customers approximately $2,000 per month for access to their electric sedans. NIO’s battery-swapping technology allows users to quickly and easily replace depleted batteries, promoting a more affordable purchasing approach where customers can opt to buy vehicles without batteries, significantly reducing the initial purchase cost.
For example, the NIO ET5 is priced at ¥328,000 in China (approximately $62,690) with a battery, or around $49,000 without one, providing a cost-effective alternative. The vehicle is capable of accelerating to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds and boasts a range of approximately 550 km when equipped with a 75 kWh battery, highlighting its competitive edge in the EV market.
