Additionally, the Highland West and Lake Victoria basin counties, such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, and Elgeyo-Marakwet, are also set to experience heavy rainfall starting Saturday, March 15. Residents of the Southeastern counties—Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta—alongside inland sections of Tana River, are advised to prepare for heavy rainfall commencing Saturday afternoon. This downpour is expected to persist for three days before easing off on Tuesday, March 17. Meanwhile, coastal counties, such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and parts of Tana River, are likely to receive only light rainfall.
With this rainy season, the Kenya Meteorological Department has also cautioned individuals, particularly in the Highland East counties, regarding very cold night temperatures dropping to 5°C over the next five days starting March 14. Conversely, counties like Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, and Uasin Gishu are forecasted to experience significant daytime temperatures, possibly reaching as high as 35°C. Other regions, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, will also see elevated temperatures during the day.
In summary, Kenyans are advised to prepare for significant rainfall nationwide from March 14 to 17, with varying intensities across different counties. Highland East regions will face cold nights, while certain areas are also expected to experience high daytime temperatures. The Kenya Meteorological Department emphasizes the importance of preparedness to mitigate the effects of these weather changes.
