According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the brutal attack continued even after their landlord attempted to intervene. The husband further assaulted not only his wife but also her friend. The violence culminated in the maize fields where the wife ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

In a desperate attempt to conceal his actions, the husband covered her body with a blanket and white cloth before returning home to burn some of her belongings near the crime scene. The body was discovered on March 1, 2025, by a local resident tending to her maize fields.

Following the crime, detectives apprehended the suspect at Holland Business Centre in Chipinge on March 12. He was subsequently remanded in custody following his court appearance in Chipinge, with proceedings set for March 28, where he faces charges of murder.
