Ahmed Suale Murder Suspect Remanded in Court

Daniel Owusu Koranteng has been remanded on murder charges in the case of Ahmed Suale, who was killed in January 2019. Koranteng is alleged to have contributed to Suale’s death and is due to reappear in court on April 1, 2025. The prosecution claims he had prior interactions with the deceased and his family, and he has been evasive during investigations.

Daniel Owusu Koranteng, a friend and former colleague of slain journalist Ahmed Suale, has been remanded in custody by the Madina District Court on a murder charge. The charge stems from his alleged involvement in causing Suale’s death on January 16, 2019, in Madina. The court has withheld Koranteng’s plea despite the presence of legal representation, and he is scheduled to reappear on April 1, 2025.

The prosecution asserts that the petitioner, whose identity is protected, is related to Ahmed Suale, while Daniel Owusu Koranteng serves as the managing director of ISPY Company. Both men were employed by Tiger Eye, an investigative journalism team led by Anas Aremeyaw Anas. As stated by the prosecution, Koranteng had several interactions with Suale and his family prior to Suale’s murder.

Tensions rose in June 2018 when Kennedy Agyapong, the owner of Net2TV, aired images of Suale, inciting revenge against the journalist. The prosecution claims that Suale identified Koranteng as the individual who provided Agyapong with his photographs. On January 16, 2019, Suale was fatally shot shortly after the broadcast of his images.

The court was informed that call records tracked Koranteng’s location near Suale’s home both before and during the time of the murder. It was also revealed that Koranteng returned to his residence in Amasaman around 11:15 PM that evening, shortly after the crime occurred. During the investigation, Koranteng evaded police invitations and fled to the United Kingdom in August 2019, only to return to Ghana where he was arrested in Amasaman on March 15, 2025.

Koranteng acknowledged his acquaintance with Suale and his visit to Agyapong but denied any involvement in selling photographs of Suale. Police investigations are ongoing to identify any additional suspects connected to this case.

The remand of Daniel Owusu Koranteng reflects the ongoing legal proceedings related to the murder of journalist Ahmed Suale. His connections to both the victim and the events leading to Suale’s death, alongside his subsequent flight and eventual arrest, highlight the complexities of this case. Investigations continue as authorities seek to uncover further aspects of this tragic incident.
