IGP Yohuno Announces Restructuring within Ghana Police Force

On March 19, 2024, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno announced significant changes within the Ghana Police Service hierarchy. These adjustments aim to enhance the operational management and control of police commands throughout the country. The information was disclosed through a press release by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Akrofi-Ansah, Director of the Police Public Affairs Directorate.
Among the notable appointments, Commissioner of Police (COP) Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah has been designated as the Director General of Research and Planning. Additionally, DCOP Ms. Lydia Yaako Donkor has assumed the role of Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), with DCOP Frank Abrokwa as her deputy.
Further changes include COP Paul Manly Awini overseeing the Service Workshop, COP Daniel Kwame Afriyie leading the Private Security Organization, and COP Dr. Ernest Kwabena Owusu appointed as the Director General of Services. Other key appointments are COP Mohammed Fuseini Suraji heading the National Patrols Department, COP Dr. Sayibu Pabi Gariba as the new Director General for Technical, and COP Mr. Michael Nketia Frempong overseeing Finance.
COP Mr. Asumadu Okyere Darko now manages the Police Professional Standards Bureau, while COP Iddi Lansah Seidu has been assigned as the Director General for Welfare. Additional appointments include COP Joseph Okla Gyamera as DG for Legal and Prosecutions, COP Peter Baba Atiniak for the Police Intelligence Directorate, and DCOP Dr. David Agyeman Adjem heading Administration. DCOP Mr. Vance Gariba is now the DG of Operations, with DCOP Sebastian Atsu Wemegah managing Information Communications Technology.
Regional Police Commanders include DCOP Mr. Duut Tuaruka for Greater Accra, DCOP Francis Kwame Tsidi for Western North, and DCOP Abraham Acquaye for Central North, among others. These appointments reflect a strategic move to streamline the command structure of the Ghana Police Service for better efficiency.
