In Rawalpindi, the newly inaugurated New Kartarpura Food Street at Chandni Chowk is attracting attention with its unique cultural offerings. This food street contains around 30 eateries, positioning itself as a spacious and family-friendly alternative to the historically popular Kartarpura Street.

The old Kartarpura Street, a significant food hub known for traditional dishes, has become overcrowded in recent years. Notably, it is famous for delights such as nihari and siri paye. Lassi, available in both salty and sweet varieties, remains a popular beverage among visitors, especially during Ramadan. However, the congestion has led to complaints from patrons and vendors alike.

In response, many food vendors have relocated to the New Kartarpura Food Street, which opened on the first day of Ramadan and will continue to operate thereafter. Abdul Latif Rashid from Kala Khan Nihari House expressed optimism about this initiative, stating it has created a more accommodating environment for families.

Organizer Raja Usama mentioned that the new market was inspired by successful Ramadan food festivals in Dubai, offering a diverse range of food and promoting collaboration among small businesses and young entrepreneurs.

At Lahore 0 Kilometer, vendor Muhammad Hamza reported that visitors from both Rawalpindi and Islamabad are drawn to their lassi, which comes in seven different flavors. He expressed the respect locals have for Arab culture, sharing his desire to wear similar attire during a future visit to Saudi Arabia.

Visitors are appreciating the New Kartarpura Food Street, finding it a welcome alternative to the overcrowded Kartarpura. Mahnoor Kareem, a local instructor, mentions how the space has attracted families looking to enjoy traditional food without the traffic hassle.

Kanwal Zahra, who offers Pakistani cuisine, highlights that her menu includes family recipes such as roti, special jaggery, sugar tea, and palak paneer. Additionally, innovative vendors like Meena Nabeel have introduced dumplings to the menu, which have quickly gained popularity among customers.
