Ott Tänak Leads Rally Kenya After Thursday’s Racing Events

Estonia’s Ott Tänak is leading the Rally Kenya after Thursday’s racing, followed by Takamoto Katsuta and Gregoire Munster. Elfyn Evans initially won the first special stage, but Tänak took the overall lead after setting the fastest time in the second stage. Rally Kenya will continue on Friday morning.

The ongoing 2025 World Rally Championship (WRC) season features Rally Kenya, where Estonia’s Ott Tänak currently leads the competition following Thursday’s races. Tänak, representing Hyundai, is ahead of his nearest rival, Takamoto Katsuta of Toyota, by a margin of 2.4 seconds.

The initial special stage was triumphantly secured by Elfyn Evans, the current World Championship leader, with a time of 3 minutes 09.09 seconds. Kalle Rovanperä and Thierry Neuville, both driving for Toyota and Hyundai respectively, shared the second position, finishing 1.5 seconds behind Evans. Tänak, at the time, was in fourth position, trailing the leader by 2.2 seconds.

In the second stage, Tänak claimed the fastest time, ascending to the overall lead. Katsuta, who was initially ahead at the halfway point, ultimately finished second, just 1.1 seconds behind Tänak, while Gregoire Munster from M-Sport Ford took third, 2.3 seconds off the lead.

As per Thursday’s results, Tänak continues to lead, followed by Katsuta and Munster, who are 2.4 and 2.6 seconds behind, respectively. Close on their heels is last year’s Safari Rally Kenya victor, Kalle Rovanperä, positioned at 3.0 seconds behind.

Rally Kenya is set to continue on Friday at 6:28 a.m. Estonian time.
