In Githunguri, Kiambu County, the police apprehended two individuals suspected of being part of a gang that targets Uber drivers, engaging in violent attacks and vehicle vandalism. Their arrest occurred at approximately 3 AM during a routine patrol along the Githunguri-Kiambu Road when authorities stopped a suspicious Uber vehicle driven by 34-year-old Antony Kimemia Wanyeki.

The vehicle, a Toyota Passo, was identified at Gathanji shopping centre, about seven kilometers from the police station. Following a thorough search, police discovered various tools indicative of vehicle vandalism and potential assault. Notably, one suspect was found with an improvised strangling device and other tools, signaling malicious intent towards potential victims.

Further investigation revealed that the other suspect possessed two national identity cards and a smartphone that had been used to request their ride. Authorities believe the gang poses as genuine Uber customers, exploiting unsuspecting drivers before committing acts of violence and vandalism, particularly on isolated roads throughout Kiambu County.

The police have stated that investigations continue, with both suspects currently in custody. They are expected to be presented for identification by other Uber drivers who may have experienced similar incidents, potentially linking these individuals to additional crimes.
