Family of Kidnapped Retired Director Appeals for Police Intervention

The family of kidnapped retired director Emmanuel Ofobrukueta is appealing for the intervention of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for his immediate rescue. Despite paying a ransom, efforts to secure his release have been unsuccessful, and the family suspects involvement from those close to the victim. The legal representative has called for swift action from authorities to address this critical matter.

The family of Emmanuel Ofobrukueta, a retired director kidnapped in Delta State, has formally requested the intervention of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to secure his immediate release. Frank Tietie, their legal representative from Forthright Chambers, announced this plea during a press conference in Abuja following the submission of a petition to the Inspector-General regarding the case. Ofobrukueta was abducted on January 13, in front of his home in Mosogar, while preparing to travel to Asaba to collect his pension.

Tietie reported that Ofobrukueta has been in captivity for two months, despite efforts by the Delta State Police Command to facilitate his rescue. He conveyed that the family has experienced immense distress throughout this ordeal and highlighted their attempts at self-help, which included hiring a private tracking company for assistance.

In a distressing turn of events, the family informed that they paid a ransom of N4,020,000 to the kidnappers through intermediaries, yet there has been no communication from the abductors or any sign of release. Some relatives of Ofobrukueta suspect that individuals linked to him, including those who handled the ransom, may be complicit in the kidnapping.

Despite waning hope, Tietie expressed confidence in the Nigerian Police’s capabilities and urged the Inspector-General to prioritize Ofobrukueta’s case. “We believe the I-G has the resources and capable men and women of the Nigeria Police Force to deploy to Delta or any part of Nigeria to ensure that the victim is rescued,” Tietie stated. He also urged the Delta State Government to conduct an investigation to facilitate Ofobrukueta’s safe return and called for the rescue of all kidnapping victims in Nigeria.
