Zelensky Announces Future Ukraine-U.S. Meetings Following U.S.-Russia Talks
Ukrainian President Zelensky announced a subsequent meeting between Ukraine and the U.S. following 12-hour talks between the U.S. and Russia in Saudi Arabia, focusing on achieving a Black Sea ceasefire. Trump aims for a swift resolution to the war, while Zelensky calls for strong diplomatic actions against Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine and the United States will convene again following extensive 12-hour discussions between the United States and Russia in Saudi Arabia. During this period, Ukrainian negotiators waited nearby as U.S. officials engaged in discussions, with a focus on achieving a ceasefire in the Black Sea region.
President Donald Trump aims for a swift resolution to the ongoing three-year conflict, believing that the latest round of talks could lead to significant progress. Zelensky, in his Monday evening address, revealed that he had previously conversed with Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, who is actively participating in the negotiations.
“A meeting with the American team took place yesterday. Today, US representatives met with Russian officials involved in the war. After that, the Ukrainian and American teams met again. I expect another update soon,” Zelensky elaborated. He further criticized Russia for its role in prolonging the war, ultimately harming both Ukraine and the global community.
To spur Russia toward peace, Zelensky emphasized the necessity of robust actions, stating, “We support any strong initiative that makes diplomacy more effective. This includes sanctions, support for Ukraine, and international coordination.” As per the state media RIA Novosti, the U.S.-Russia talks concluded after 12 hours, with a joint statement anticipated on March 25.
On March 23, prior to the Russian discussions, the Trump delegation had met with the Ukrainian representatives in Saudi Arabia. Initial reports indicated a concentration on the attacks on energy infrastructure, and later revelations noted discussions surrounding a potential partial ceasefire at sea. Zelensky characterized these talks as constructive and beneficial.
The recent discussions between the United States and Russia mark a potential turning point in the ongoing conflict, with both parties exploring avenues for a ceasefire. President Zelensky’s optimism regarding further cooperation with U.S. representatives reflects a concerted effort to achieve a resolution to the war. The emphasis on strong diplomatic initiatives and international support underscores the urgency of establishing peace in the region.
