Kenyan TikToker Wangare Kamunge, known as Rish Kamunge, has been released on a Ksh5 million personal bond after being arraigned in court for operating a fraudulent job scheme that targeted Kenyans seeking employment in Mauritius. The court denied the prosecution’s request for her seven-day detention, allowing her to secure her release upon bond payment.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated that Rish, who manages the Trustpine Travel Agency, allegedly took payments ranging from Ksh200,000 to Ksh400,000 from victims who believed they were securing legitimate jobs in Mauritius. Unfortunately, many victims discovered these opportunities were illusory after making substantial payments.

Some individuals, lured by the job offers, traveled to Mauritius only to find themselves abandoned at the airport without any support, leading to their deportation back to Kenya. Rish reportedly confessed to receiving a total of Ksh12.9 million from at least 43 victims.

Following the stories of hardship, detectives have encouraged other individuals who may have been duped to report their experiences at the Central Police Station in Nairobi. On March 27, a group of upset Kenyans protested at the Trustpine office, demanding refunds, claiming they had traveled thousands of kilometers only to find no employment.

Many victims, having discovered the job agency through online advertisements, expressed their frustrations. One victim recounted paying Ksh225,000, which was broken down into an initial payment of Ksh80,000, followed by Ksh145,000 for flight tickets. Their stories underscore the significant emotional and financial distress caused by this elaborate scam.
