NDLEA’s Crackdown on Drug Trafficking: Lagos Businessman Arrested for Cannabis Importation

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended Arokodare Damil Ebenezer, a Lagos-based businessman and owner of Damillionz Takeout, for allegedly importing 60 parcels of a potent cannabis strain known as Loud from the United States into Nigeria. The arrest occurred at Bay Lounge, Lekki, while the 43-year-old suspect awaited delivery of his shipment.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi reported that prior to his arrest, operatives intercepted the cargo containing seven large cartons of this illegal substance in Lagos on March 12. After his apprehension, a search of Ebenezer’s Lekki residence uncovered an additional 94 grams of cannabis, along with a crusher and drug paraphernalia. This brought the total seizure to approximately 32.24 kilograms.

Ebenezer disclosed his involvement in drug trafficking since 2017, affirming his prior engagement in the illicit trade. In a different operation, NDLEA officials at Murtala Muhammed International Airport arrested Omoruyi Terry, attempting to smuggle 1,400 tramadol pills bound for Italy.

The agency also reported the capture of four suspects in Katsina, where operatives recovered 684 blocks of compressed skunk and 86,000 diazepam pills during a raid in Godai village. Additionally, NDLEA operatives destroyed 13,198 kilograms of cannabis sativa in Edo between March 24 and 28, unearthing and dismantling four cannabis plantations in various forests. Further seizures included significant amounts of skunk in Niger state and Enugu, reflecting a concerning trend in drug trafficking activities.

The NDLEA has seen a recent increase in drug-related arrests, with noteworthy incidents involving attempts to export cocaine and major trafficking syndicates disrupted in various states.
