In Niger State, police have apprehended Private Sadiq Sani, a soldier, on charges of armed robbery and assault against a local businessman, Abdulrahman Salihu. The incident occurred during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations when Sani purportedly visited Salihu’s shop to purchase shirts, later requesting account details under the guise of making an electronic money transfer.

Upon Salihu’s suspicion regarding the transaction, he asked Sani to ensure the money was deposited before releasing the shirts. In a shocking turn of events, Sani allegedly brandished a knife, inflicting critical injuries that resulted in the amputation of Salihu’s arm before fleeing the scene despite attempts by neighbors to detain him.

The Niger Police, equipped with information leading to Sani’s residence in Limawa, conducted a raid and arrested him after he attempted to engage them in a struggle. The case has since been forwarded to military police for further investigation, led by Captain U.S. Ibrahim of the 313 Brigade in Minna. He stated that Sani would face court martial proceedings before returning to police custody for criminal prosecution.

Additionally, Police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun disclosed that both Sani and an accomplice were taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for intensive inquiries. He detailed the victim’s condition upon hospitalization, where Salihu was treated for significant injuries sustained during the assault with a knife.
