Sweden’s Minister for Infrastructure and Housing, Andreas Carlson, has announced the country’s commitment to invest in Nigeria’s information and communications technology (ICT) and innovation hub sectors. This pledge was made during an interview in Abuja, coinciding with the official visit of Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria Désirée to Nigeria.
Mr. Carlson emphasized that, as one of the world’s most innovative nations, Sweden aims to deepen its cooperation with Nigeria in various sectors, including technology, sustainable transportation, and agriculture. He remarked, “We are happy to share knowledge and work together… The youthful population comes with a lot of opportunities,” highlighting the potential for collaboration in ICT and other fields.
During this visit, Mr. Carlson also inaugurated a strategic trade office in Lagos to facilitate Swedish investments in Nigeria, further solidifying bilateral relations. Crown Princess Victoria noted that the collaboration between Sweden and Nigeria extends across several sectors, including renewable energy and digital solutions, and expressed pride in inaugurating the new trade office.
Sweden’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Annika Hahn-Englund, elaborated on the vast potential for collaboration in areas such as digitalization and creative industries, stating that around 40 Swedish companies are currently operating in Nigeria. She expressed optimism regarding future trade and investment opportunities stemming from the new trade office in Lagos.
