Extradition of Murder Suspect Nnayereugo from Qatar to Nigeria
Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, known as “Killaboi,” has been extradited from Qatar to Nigeria following his alleged murder of Miss Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe. His extradition was facilitated by the cooperation of various law enforcement agencies, including INTERPOL NCB. After evading arrest for several months, Nnayereugo was apprehended using a false identity before being successfully returned to Nigeria to face charges.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has completed the extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, also known as “Killaboi,” from Doha, Qatar, to Nigeria to face murder charges. According to statements from Police spokesman ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Nnayereugo was apprehended for the murder of Miss Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe. He was returned to Nigeria in the early hours of Saturday after being on the run since the incident in July 2023.
The successful extradition was the result of coordinated efforts among the Ministry of Justice, the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), the Force Headquarters in Abuja, and the Qatari Judicial Authorities. The process began following a petition from the family of the deceased, which was submitted through legal representatives on 29th September 2024.
Investigations led by INTERPOL NCB Abuja revealed that Nnayereugo murdered Onuwabhagbe, a first-class student of Lead City University, at his residence in Lagos. After committing the crime, he fled Nigeria, later releasing an online video appearing to confess, which was ultimately a deceptive tactic to mislead investigators.
Nnayereugo was declared wanted by the NPF on 13th October 2023, prompting the issuance of an INTERPOL Red Notice for his apprehension. He was initially captured under a false identity in Sierra Leone on 20th October 2023 but escaped custody during a prison break in November.
Subsequent intelligence indicated that Nnayereugo was evading capture under various aliases across multiple regions, including West Africa and the Middle East. Ultimately, he settled in Doha, Qatar, using the alias “TOURE ABDOULAYE” with a fraudulent Guinean passport.
Through international cooperation and advanced biometrics, Nnayereugo’s identity was confirmed, leading to his arrest by Qatari authorities in February 2025. An extradition request was processed and approved by Qatari judicial authorities, leading to his repatriation to Nigeria.
Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun acknowledged the importance of international collaboration in combating trans-border crimes and expressed gratitude towards all parties involved, including the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Government of Qatar. He assured the public of the NPF’s commitment to ensuring Nnayereugo faces prosecution for his alleged crimes.
The extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo from Qatar marks a significant achievement for the Nigeria Police Force in their fight against transnational crime. This incident underscores the importance of international cooperation in law enforcement efforts and reaffirms the NPF’s commitment to justice. As Nnayereugo faces prosecution for the murder of Miss Onuwabhagbe, the case serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges authorities face in managing criminals who evade justice across borders and the collaborative measures required to address such issues.
