A tragic incident occurred on the outskirts of Nairobi, where a 14-year-old girl was killed by a lion, according to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS). The young girl was taken from a residential compound adjacent to Nairobi National Park, prompting the intervention of KWS rangers. Subsequently, her remains were discovered near the Mbagathi River after traces were followed from an alert raised by another teenager.

The lion responsible for the attack has yet to be located; however, KWS has set traps and deployed search teams to find the animal. In addition, the agency has implemented enhanced security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Nairobi National Park, situated just 10 kilometers from the city center, is known for its diverse wildlife, including lions, buffalos, giraffes, leopards, and cheetahs.

Despite the frequent conflicts between lions and humans in Kenya, particularly concerning livestock, fatal attacks on individuals remain rare. For instance, surveillance footage from the previous year captured a lion taking a Rottweiler from a home near the park. On a related note, KWS reported that a 54-year-old man sustained fatal injuries after being attacked by an elephant in Nyeri County, situated approximately 130 kilometers north of Nairobi. The man, who suffered severe chest injuries and internal trauma, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
