Alleged B.C. Drug Trafficker Cody Casey Arrested After 3-Year Manhunt

Cody Timothy Casey, a B.C. drug trafficking suspect, has been captured in Oman after three years on the run. He faces 17 charges including trafficking and firearm offences. Casey had evaded authorities since cutting off his electronic monitoring device before trial in 2022.

Cody Timothy Casey, a man wanted for three years in connection with numerous drug trafficking and weapon charges, was arrested in Oman and subsequently appeared in a Vancouver Provincial Court session on April 25. Authorities confirmed that he was brought back to Canada via Germany, where he was remanded in custody by Judge Donna Senniw.

The 38-year-old Casey was wanted by the Vancouver Police Department, holding a Canada-wide warrant for a total of 17 offences relating to drug trafficking and firearms. According to court documents, his charges, filed on October 8, 2021, stem from incidents that occurred on July 27, 2020. These serious allegations include possession for the purpose of trafficking a variety of drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, and ketamine.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, Casey faced additional charges related to the possession of several firearms including a Sturmgewehr STG44 semi-automatic rifle and a Mossberg model 715 Tactical T 22 rifle. After initially being arrested on these charges in July 2020, Casey secured a release on bail of $200,000 from Judge John Milne on October 12, 2021, under strict conditions that mandated the surrender of his passport and other travel documents.

In the context of the drug allegations, both Casey and co-accused Janell Elizabeth Sandhu are accused of unlawfully producing substances including fentanyl and heroin between December 2019 and February 2020. The investigation also revealed the location of a drug lab at a downtown condo on Seymour Street. Authorities executed a search warrant on February 16, 2020, uncovering over four kilograms of fentanyl at the site. In a coordinated push on July 27, 2020, multiple search warrants were executed across Metro Vancouver, leading to the seizure of more than 20 kilograms of fentanyl and substantial cash, further emphasizing the scale of operations Casey was believed to be involved in.

After his arrest on July 30, 2020, Casey was placed under stringent bail conditions which included electronic monitoring. However, shortly before his trial was about to commence in April 2022, he cut off the ankle bracelet and has been on the run ever since, until his capture in Oman, marking a significant development in this ongoing investigation.
