The new model commenced sales on May 22, 2024, aiming to promote the use of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in the region. BYD continues its growth trajectory, seeing significant international sales and competitive positioning against rivals like Tesla’s Model Y.

BYD has officially launched its Sealion 07 electric SUV in Guatemala, where it is referred to as the Sealion 7. This follows the company’s strategy of renaming models for various international markets. The announcement was made this week, with sales commencing on May 22.

Entering the Guatemalan market in November 2024, BYD had introduced four models initially. The addition of the Sealion 7 is anticipated to promote the adoption of environmentally friendly vehicles in the region.

This model joins a growing roster of new energy vehicles (NEVs) from BYD and is part of the company’s broader push for sustainability. According to BYD, this latest launch aims to encourage consumers to consider more efficient vehicle options.

Earlier advancements were also noted with the unveiling of BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo in China. This platform debuted on May 10, 2024, alongside the Sealion 07 as the first vehicle designed using this advanced technology.

The Sealion 07 competes directly with electric vehicles like Tesla’s Model Y, entering the market starting at a price of RMB 189,800 (approximately $26,360) in China. BYD continues to expand the Sealion 07’s international footprint, with previous releases in markets including Norway, Thailand, India, Mexico, and Hungary.

Geographically, Guatemala is situated south of Mexico, with its capital city being Guatemala City. As of now, BYD’s offerings in the Central American nation include the Dolphin, Seagull, Yuan Plus, and Song Pro DM-i, alongside the Han, Tang, and Song Plus DM-i models introduced last year.

As China’s largest manufacturer of new energy vehicles, BYD reported impressive sales figures of 1,380,893 units from January to April 2024, marking a substantial year-on-year growth of nearly 47 percent. Furthermore, overseas sales reached 285,170 units during the same period, an increase of over 105 percent.

BYD’s launch of the Sealion 07, now dubbed the Sealion 7 in Guatemala, signifies its ongoing commitment to expanding into international markets with environmentally friendly vehicles. This move not only enhances BYD’s presence in Central America, but it also reflects a broader shift toward new energy adoption by consumers. With its advanced technology and competitive pricing, the Sealion 7 is set to vie against established players like Tesla, potentially reshaping the market landscape.
