A ceremony to celebrate the completion of the station’s renovations took place the day prior, attended by the country’s railway minister, along with various officials and workers. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) stated that the renovations were designed to enhance the station’s capabilities as a border gateway, aimed to significantly improve passenger convenience and support railway modernization efforts.

The station is strategically located alongside the Tumen River at North Korea’s northeastern border with Russia, directly linking to Russia’s Khasan Station via a bridge. The Tumen River itself stretches 512 kilometers, marking the boundary between North Korea, China, and Russia.
