Police Arrest Dismissed Soldier Over N920,000 PoS Fraud in Niger

The Niger Police have arrested a dismissed soldier, Michael Musa, for fraud involving N920,000 taken from PoS shops. The individual, dressed in military uniform, was implicated in multiple thefts over several weeks. The investigation continues as more victims are expected to come forward.

The Niger Police Command has announced the arrest of a former soldier in connection with a series of fraudulent activities totaling over N920,000. The individual, identified as Michael Musa, was apprehended following a thorough investigation into multiple complaints regarding impersonation and theft at Point of Sale (PoS) outlets. This information was revealed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, on Tuesday during a statement in Minna.

As per the report, on May 27, the police received a case of criminal breach of trust and fraud that was initially referred from a magistrate court. Three victims reported that the suspect, in military attire, approached PoS operators on several occasions, deceiving them into handing over substantial amounts of money. The incidents took place on different dates, with the first being on May 12, when the suspect allegedly collected N120,000 at a PoS shop near Musa Bello Primary School.

Following this, on May 23, he struck again, this time taking N300,000 from a PoS attendant in Kataeregi. Just days later, on May 29, he targeted yet another victim along Mandela Road, stealing N500,000. Police detectives utilized technical intelligence to track and arrest Musa, who was found wearing military uniform at the time of his capture.

During questioning, the arresting officers reported that Musa admitted to the crimes. He claimed to have been dismissed from military service in 2022 in Benin, Edo. Authorities continue to investigate the matter and have noted that additional victims are coming forward with similar allegations against the suspect.
