In the picturesque realm of Kikuube, a remote district in Uganda’s western region, free medical care has taken center stage as a joint effort between Chinese and Ugandan medical professionals. The initiative that has grasped the attention of many is a healthcare outreach from a Chinese medical team based in the capital, Kampala. Covering over 300 kilometers, harmoniously working alongside more than 20 local practitioners, this camp seeks to alleviate medical woes for hundreds of residents in need.

On a bright day, the campaign is in full swing at Buhuka Health Center III, where the local community gathers in hopeful anticipation. Amongst the visitors is 45-year-old Jennifer Nyangoma, eagerly lining up for her appointment after hearing about this opportunity. Doctors at the camp recommended acupuncture for Nyangoma, who has been battling persistent joint and back pain, demonstrating the blend of modern and traditional medicine in addressing local health issues. Additionally, Linard Kule, the center’s acting head, praised the camp for facilitating not only critical medical assistance but also a valuable exchange of knowledge between the two nations’ healthcare workers.

As the camp unfolds, children and families flock to receive much-needed treatment, with concerns about their health at the forefront. Hu Weijie, acting president of CNOOC Uganda Limited, emphasized that the initiative resonates with the company’s long-standing commitment to local health and welfare.
