Jorge Martin Injured Again, Out of Thailand MotoGP Race
Jorge Martin has injured his left hand and will miss the Thailand MotoGP, with Lorenzo Savadori stepping in to replace him. Martin had previously sustained injuries during pre-season testing but was expected to race. Necessary surgery on his left hand in Barcelona will dictate his recovery and participation going forward.
Jorge Martin, the reigning MotoGP World Champion, has sustained significant injuries to his left hand and will thus be absent from the Thailand MotoGP season opener. According to reports from various European media outlets, Martin suffered a complex fracture of the radius and carpal bones during training. In his place, Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori will compete at the Chang International Circuit this weekend.
In a tragic sequence of events, Martin had also sustained fractures to his right hand and left foot during the first day of pre-season testing at Sepang, yet his team had remained optimistic about his participation in the Thailand GP. Following these recent challenges, Aprilia confirmed that Martin required surgery on his left hand, which will be conducted in Barcelona.
The MotoGP news release indicates that Martin’s recovery timeline will be assessed post-surgery. His participation in subsequent races remains uncertain, casting a shadow over his campaign as he transitions from Primac Racing Ducati to Aprilia for the upcoming season.
In summary, Jorge Martin will miss the Thailand Grand Prix due to serious injuries sustained during training, requiring surgery on his left hand. Lorenzo Savadori is set to replace him for this crucial opening race. Following his injuries from Sepang testing, Martin’s further participation in the season is now in question, as recovery timelines will be determined after his surgery.
