On Friday, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake impacted northern Nepal, particularly near Kathmandu, as reported by the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre. The seismic activity originated near Bhairab Kunda in the Sindhupalchok District. Though the German Research Centre for Geosciences recorded a slightly lower magnitude of 5.6, it confirmed a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles). Ganesh Nepali, a senior official from the Sindhupalchok district, described the event as a significant disturbance, stating, “It shook us from our sleep strongly.” He noted that following the tremor, residents quickly evacuated their homes, although they have since returned without new reports of injuries or damage. The region appears to have avoided any serious repercussions from the quake, allowing citizens to regain a sense of normalcy.
