The excitement prior to Inlander Restaurant Week has been palpable, particularly for those keen to explore Spokane’s culinary offerings. As a new food writer at the Inlander, I was eager to delve into this experience. My sister and I kicked off our gastronomic adventure at India House, located at 4410 S. Regal St., where we opted for the $35 per person menu.
To begin, we sampled two appetizers: the subudana pakore, which featured tapioca and potato fritters seasoned with cumin and herbs, and the singhara aloo tikki, fried fritters made from water chestnut flour and potatoes, complemented by various sauces. Both dishes were not only delicious but also elegantly presented, inviting us to savor each bite at our leisure.
For the second course, I chose the chicken methi mali, while my sister selected the vegetarian variant, methi matter mali, consisting of tofu and green beans. Both dishes were richly flavored in creamy red curry, garnished with fenugreek and ginger, and we enjoyed them at a medium spice level—perfect for enhancing the experience without overwhelming the palate. The meal was well-rounded, accompanied by naan and rice.
For dessert, I indulged in carrot cake halwa, a delightful dish featuring roasted carrots, nuts, and cardamom that offered a unique yet satisfying twist on traditional carrot cake. My sister opted for the paan ice cream, served in an exquisite chalice. It presented a surprising burst of flavors with refreshing betel leaf, rose petal jam, and coconut flakes, making it an unforgettable experience.
India House operates its standard menu alongside the Restaurant Week offerings from Tuesday to Sunday, from 11 am to 9 pm, across three locations. Reservations are encouraged and can be arranged either by telephone or through their website at indiahouse.us.
