Dangote Refinery Partners with Optima Energy to Offer Affordable Petrol in Nigeria
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has partnered with Optima Energy to distribute affordable petrol in Nigeria, increasing its total partnerships to four. This follows a nationwide reduction in pump prices by NNPC. Dangote has pledged to reimburse consumers who encounter pricing discrepancies at its partners’ outlets, and it has also made a significant crude oil purchase from Algeria.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has formed a partnership with Optima Energy to expand its distribution of affordable petrol across Nigeria. This collaboration increases the total number of distributors for Dangote petrol to four, which includes MRS Nigeria, Ardova PLC, and Heyden. This announcement coincides with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) reducing pump prices nationwide, enhancing competition within the sector.
In a recent communication, Dangote urged Nigerians to purchase from its partners’ retail outlets for high-quality petrol. The refinery provided a price list for fuel sold by its partners, which includes prices per litre in various regions. For example, in Lagos, MRS lists prices ranging from N860 to N880, while Optima Energy’s range is similarly from N865 to N895.
In reaction to these developments, NNPC has reduced its pump price of petrol to N860 per litre, down from N945, effective from March 3, 2025. Dangote Refinery has also cut its ex-depot price from N890 to N825 per litre, signifying a commitment to affordability. The refinery intends to assist oil marketers who purchased fuel at higher prices and announced a reimbursement scheme for consumers reporting excessive charges at their partner outlets.
Furthermore, Dangote Refinery recently procured its first shipment of light sweet Saharan blend crude oil from Algeria, with the cargo expected to arrive in March 2025. This acquisition is part of the refinery’s broader strategy to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality fuel at competitive prices in the Nigerian market and position itself effectively within the energy sector.
In summary, Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s partnership with Optima Energy aims to enhance the distribution of affordable fuel across Nigeria amidst competitive pricing from NNPC. The shared commitment to better pricing includes provisions for consumer reimbursements on excessive charges, reflecting responsiveness to market dynamics. Additionally, the refinery’s acquisition of crude oil signifies ongoing efforts to secure high-quality fuel supply for its operations and consumers.
