A college student from Loudoun County, Virginia, has been reported missing while she was on vacation in the Dominican Republic. The student, Sudiksha Konanki, 20, from Chantilly, was last seen on March 6 at the beach near the Riu Republica Resort, where she was on a spring break trip with five friends.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Konanki is a citizen of India and a permanent resident of the United States. The office is collaborating closely with federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of State, the FBI, the DEA, and Homeland Security Investigations, alongside the University of Pittsburgh police, to support the investigation led by the Dominican National Police.
A flyer distributed by The Aware Foundation detailed that Sudiksha was last seen wearing a brown two-piece bikini, round earrings, a metal designer anklet on her right leg, and various bracelets on her arms. In a statement from a University of Pittsburgh spokesman, it was noted that university officials are in contact with her family and the relevant authorities, offering support in the effort to locate her safely.
Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares expressed concern on social media, stating that “All of Virginia is praying for the safe return of Loudoun County resident Sudiksha Konanki.” According to three Dominican officials, it is believed that Konanki may have perished due to a drowning incident, as she and a companion reportedly went swimming when they were overwhelmed by a wave.
