A man who stayed behind with her reported that they swam together but were caught by a strong wave. Afterward, he claims to have fallen asleep on a beach bed, only to find Konanki missing upon waking.

Security footage indicates that the man returned to his hotel room at approximately 9:55 a.m. Authorities have stated that he is not regarded as a suspect and currently, the investigation is being treated as a tragic accident. The chief of Civil Defense noted that increased search efforts along the beach and water are ongoing.

Three Dominican officials suggested that there is a belief that Konanki may have drowned.
