Authorities recently confiscated the passport of a person of interest, Joshua Steven Riibe, who is being escorted by police and is restricted from leaving. Konanki, from Ashburn, Virginia, was in the Dominican Republic with fellow students during spring break when she disappeared while on a trip to Punta Cana.

Riibe, aged 22, was reportedly the last person to see Konanki on March 6. Riibe explained to authorities that he and Konanki had entered the water together when a wave pulled them out to sea. He claims to have brought her back to shore before he fell asleep on a beach bed, only to awaken and find her missing.
