This conversation comes in the context of recent communications between the United States and Russia, specifically concerning ceasefire proposals related to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Sheikh Tamim’s call with Putin occurs shortly after a dialogue between US President Donald Trump and President Putin, focused on matters pertinent to the war in Ukraine. Russia’s military offensive against Ukraine, which commenced on February 24, 2022, remains contentious, as Moscow demands Ukraine forgo its aspirations to join Western military coalitions, a request viewed as a violation of Ukrainian sovereignty.
