An Indian-origin Chief Executive Officer, Deeptanshu ‘Deep’ Prasad, reported experiencing a terrifying incident near a hotel in San Francisco, where he was chased and shot at twice. In a post on X, he described how this was the first time he had undergone such an ordeal in his three-decade-long life.
Prasad recounted that he was walking back to his hotel after an after-party around 3:30 to 4:00 a.m. when the attackers pursued him and fired a gun. Upon exiting the hotel with a staff member, he alleged that he faced another gunfire attempt. He reported that both he and the hotel employee heard the sound of a Glock firearm, and while the staff member witnessed the gun, Prasad noted seeing the bullet impacts.
The CEO criticized the San Francisco Police Department for allegedly misclassifying the incident as a case involving fireworks, advocating for a serious response to such dangerous situations. He expressed regret for not opting for an Uber instead of walking and emphasized the severity of the incident. Prasad remarked, “It is my opinion that @SFPD wrongly misclassified this as a use of fireworks case with zero investigation… The city is dangerous.”
He further suggested that the attackers might have attempted to harm him with firecrackers and called for an adequate investigation into the encounter. In a follow-up message, he concluded that he would refrain from traveling in San Francisco after midnight in the future, highlighting, “Never going out again in this city after midnight… I regret walking back and not Ubering.”
While Prasad affirmed his overall safety post-incident, he remains shaken by the experience, providing critical insight into the increasing dangers faced in urban environments.
Deeptanshu ‘Deep’ Prasad’s experience as an Indian-origin CEO highlights serious concerns about safety in urban settings. His encounter near a San Francisco hotel raises questions regarding the police’s handling of such incidents and the possible misclassification of violent crime.
