Extradition of Fugitive ‘Killaboi’ from Qatar to Face Murder Charges
Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, known as “Killaboi,” has been extradited from Qatar to Nigeria after being on the run for nearly two years for the murder of his girlfriend. Following a global manhunt, his capture was facilitated by INTERPOL and the Nigeria Police Force, leading to his return for trial.
The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, known as “Killaboi,” after nearly two years on the run. This fugitive is wanted in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, Miss Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe. He was arrested in Doha, Qatar, and returned to Nigeria on April 19, 2025. The tragic event occurred on July 13, 2023, in Lagos at the suspect’s residence.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the extradition resulted from collaborative efforts by the Nigeria Police, INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Abuja, the Federal Ministry of Justice, and Qatari authorities. This process was initiated following a petition from the deceased’s family on September 29, 2024, which prompted an international investigation.
Authorities revealed that Killaboi had fled Nigeria after committing the crime and attempted to mislead investigations through a false online confession video. On October 13, 2023, after he was declared wanted by the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, an INTERPOL Red Notice was issued to facilitate his capture.
Initially apprehended in Sierra Leone on October 20, 2023, under the alias “Kanu Princeton Samuel,” Killaboi escaped during a prison break on November 26, 2023. Subsequent intelligence indicated he traveled across West Africa, East Asia, and the Middle East, adopting various forged identities. He ultimately reached Doha on January 24, 2025, under the alias “Toure Abdoulaye,” working with a fraudulent Guinean passport.
Adejobi emphasized that advanced biometric techniques, alongside international cooperation between INTERPOL NCB Abuja and INTERPOL NCB Doha, confirmed Killaboi’s identity, resulting in his February 2025 arrest. A formal extradition request by the Federal Ministry of Justice was approved by Qatari judicial authorities, enabling his return to Nigeria for trial.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the commendable efforts of INTERPOL NCB Abuja and expressed appreciation to the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Government of Qatar, INTERPOL Doha, and the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar for their collaborative support. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Police to pursue justice and enhance the safety of Nigerians.
In summary, the extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, also known as “Killaboi,” highlights the effectiveness of international cooperation in law enforcement. His subsequent arrest and return to Nigeria signal a commitment to justice, particularly in serious criminal cases such as murder. The coordinated efforts of multiple agencies played a crucial role in ensuring safety and accountability.
