Ghana Police Announce Safe Return of Women Kidnapped in Nigeria

This successful rescue operation occurred on May 1, 2025, through the joint efforts of the Ghana Police, the National Signals Bureau, and the Nigeria Police Force.
Evelyn Serwaa Konadu and Anatasia Baidoo were kidnapped by three individuals, who reportedly tortured them and demanded a ransom of GH₵500,000 for each woman. A harrowing video capturing their distress went viral, raising alarms about their situation.
During a media briefing on May 9, 2025, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department, confirmed the women’s arrival at Kotoka International Airport. She assured that both women are in stable condition and will receive necessary medical attention before assisting with ongoing investigations.
“As we stated then, arrangements were underway to safely transport the victims back to Ghana. I am pleased to confirm that, earlier this morning, my team and I received the victims at Kotoka International Airport,” she reported.
In light of this incident, the Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to crime prevention and detection, emphasizing its role in ensuring safety across the nation. Additionally, they issued a warning about the rising issue of online romance scams, urging citizens to be cautious when interacting with unfamiliar individuals online.

Please refrain from sharing personal or financial information and report any suspicious behavior to the Police immediately,” the police stated.
