Key Suspect Arrested in Kasipul MP Were’s Assassination Case

Isaac Kuria, a key suspect in the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, was arrested near the Kenya-Tanzania border while trying to flee. His capture is a significant step as investigators believe he is the triggerman responsible for the MP’s murder. In total, eleven individuals have been detained in connection with the assassination, including Were’s bodyguard and driver, while further investigations into funding sources continue.

Authorities have detained a key suspect linked to the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were. The suspect, Isaac Kuria, also known as “Kush,” was apprehended in the border town of Isebania while attempting to escape to Tanzania. His arrest is a significant development following Were’s daylight murder on Nairobi’s Valley Road.

Investigators believe that Kuria acted as the triggerman in a planned hit, pursuing Were through Nairobi’s central business district before fatally shooting him in traffic. Reports indicate that Kuria evaded capture immediately after the incident, first fleeing to Mihang’o, where he disposed of the weapon, later retrieved by authorities. He then reportedly traveled through Narok using a motorbike before merging into public transport towards the border.

Detectives succeeded in tracing Kuria’s moves through intercepted communications with others already detained in connection to the murder. A senior officer disclosed, “This man was on the run, and his arrest marks a major breakthrough in our investigation.”

Following his capture, Kuria was taken into custody along with another individual. Both are currently being transported to Nairobi and are expected to be presented at the JKIA Law Courts on Monday. With Kuria’s arrest, the total number of detainees related to the assassination has risen to 11.

The list of arrested individuals includes Were’s bodyguard, Allan Omondi, and his driver, Walter Owino. Moreover, William Imoli is also believed to have been central to financing and organizing the assassination plot. Investigators are also looking into the roles of notable figures like businessman Phillip Aroko and Lake Basin Development Authority Director Ebel Ochieng, who are alleged to have funded the operation.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is currently examining financial records and conversations among suspects to piece together the motivations behind the plot.

Charles Ong’ondo Were was laid to rest at his rural home in Kachien village, following the detailed investigations into his untimely death.

The arrest of Isaac Kuria, identified as a key suspect in the assassination of MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, marks a pivotal moment in ongoing investigations. With the total number of detained individuals now reaching eleven, including significant figures linked to the crime, authorities continue to piece together the motives behind this horrific act. The DCI’s focus on communications and financial transactions among suspects underscores the complexity of this case as it unfolds.
