Grenade’s path to fame began with a meeting with Ugandan music icon, Jose Chameleone. Driven by his ambition, he trekked from Lyantonde to Kyazanga to attend one of Chameleone’s performances, believing he could settle a debt with him. Not one to give up easily, Grenade made the journey to Kampala, hitching a ride on a truck filled with music equipment. Once in Kampala, he briefly worked in an equipment shop in Katwe. Along with a friend, Grenade ventured to Seguku, but missed yet another opportunity to encounter Chameleone. To support himself during this challenging time, he took various odd jobs, such as selling scrap metal. His fortunes shifted when he met a producer named Mavo in Kamwokya, who guided him to record his first songs using the name Moz Dem.

After gaining some local exposure, a disagreement with Mavo led to a return to the streets.
